This exhibition is an interactive, hands-on exploration into the history of Maitland and its surrounding areas! There were a lot of things that did not happen in Maitland. There were no great battles fought on the soil, nor was it home to any infamous individuals. The town was not the epicenter of any great social movements, nor was it home to discoveries that would better humankind. Maitland was, and continues to be, a small town, like so many others.The story of Maitland is a story of seemingly ordinary people who lived through extraordinary times, a place where people made their homes while dramatic events unfolded in other parts of the world. People labored here, raised their families, loved, lost, thought, and created. The objects in the museum's collection reflect the brightness of these lives against the backdrop of a changing and often troubled world.Each artifact tells a story specific to a place and time. They are the carriers of the memories of the people who owned them, who felt that they were important enough to their own story to preserve them. Many of them are the prototypes of the objects that we use and hold dear today, objects which will one day carry our own memories forward.Welcome to Maitland's Attic, a gathering place of the unique items that tell of Maitland's past. Artist Q+A with Botanical Illustrator and Singer-Songwriter June Bunch featuring her Live Music and Visual Art This fun, free event features both live music and visual art of June Bunch as she dives into her illustrations after sharing original tunes. In the exhibition, June Bunch transforms 50 state flowers into botanical ballerinas. Her illustrations combine figure drawing with floral theatrics, adding elements of vibrant colors and texture-rich embroidery to her work. In an instant, her images stretch the viewer's eye past the present to see the blossom's full-seasonal vitality, summarized in one frozen motion. Bunch curates contemporary illustrations by studying plants' "choreography" of growth, illuminating their dance with vibrant colors and clean lines. Her visual art remains rooted in botany and ballet, featuring postures that hold emotional richness, highlighting human nature and flora in a bold, empowering way. The art is created first through expressive figure drawings and botanical sketches that are then translated digitally and drawn line-by-line with a pen-tool, tending to each marking with thoughtful detail. There, June grew inspired by the "choreography" of the natural world around her and humanized it, incorporating figure drawing paired with a love of dance.Her work has won an honorable mention at the Morean Arts Center and has been on display at the Imagine Museum, Dunedin Fine Arts Center, Five Deuces Galleria, Art@400, The Werk Gallery, and the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance Gallery. Recent excavations have uncovered the remains of a once-grand palace violently destroyed in antiquity. Drawing on spatial archaeology, digital mapping, and on-the-ground fieldwork, this talk explores how archaeologists piece together evidence of political power, daily life, and violent catastrophe in Mesopotamia. Attendees will get an inside look at how modern scientific methods help us reconstruct a palace's final moments and what these discoveries reveal about the ancient world.

Instructor: Ryan Price Location: Cottage at Lake Lily Cost: $60 + $5 material fees Materials fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor, and are due on the day of the workshop. No drawing experience is required! Open to all levels. Automatic drawing is a technique named by and commonly used by the Surrealists, which involves the artist directly and randomly moving the pen or drawing tool with no preconceived image or plan. This technique is similar to what writers termed "Stream of consciousness" writing, where, through a mental shift, drawing automatically allows participants to let their subconscious flow through their hands. Participants will be encouraged to draw their hearts' content out and learn to unshackle themselves from hesitation caused by the anxiety of being confronted by a blank sheet. Students will create many drawings using many different materials to get them out of their heads and out of their comfort zones. Students will learn about processes like automatism, frottage, and responsive drawing. The drawing doesn't ever have to be quote-on-quote finished it can be left as a single deposit of personal memory. There is no right or wrong way to practice automatic drawing. Register Here!

Help with native habitat maintenance! This is the Tarflower Chapter: Florida Native Plant Society's monthly restoration volunteer morning. Plan to help weed, water and possibly install new plants. Instructor: Ryan Price Location: Cottage at Lake Lily Cost: $60 + $10 material fees. Materials fees must be paid in cash directly to the instructor, and are due on the day of the workshop. Participants will be using household items to learn how to make lithography prints. Each participant will receive a sheet of aluminum foil mounted to a wooden board and a Sharpie to draw images on. Once students have finalized their image, they will use Coca-Cola to "etch" the plate, rinse with water, dry, and apply canola oil, then buff it into the place. They can begin the inking to the plate, run it through the press, or create a rubbing with a wooden spoon. This workshop will provide participants with an idea of how the process of lithography works with a low-stakes and low-cost approach. Each person leaves with a new skill and a print.
